Fall Lawn Repair Services

Fall is also a great time of the year for repairing your lawn from summer stress through aerations, over-seeding and compost additions.  Fall brings cooler temperatures, less radiant heat and generally more precipitation to the lawns in the Midwest.  This is the perfect recipe for root and rhizome growth in your highly maintained lawns.  By combining mother nature's best efforts for root growth with a few simple lawn services you can greatly enhance your lawn's ability to thrive before winter dormancy.

Aerations open up the soil by pulling small 3/8" x 2" plugs from the lawn and depositing them on top.  This allows oxygen, seed, water and composts or soil conditioners to have direct access to the rootzone of the turf.  This encourages root and rhizome growth and development by opening up more space in the previously compacted soil profile.  Compacted clay-based soils bind tightly together from summer heat and traffic resulting in a concrete-like soil structure.  This decreases the availability of moisture, nutrients and oxygen to the roots of your lawn.  By coring the soil through core aeration, the soil is opened up and allows the roots to absorb oxygen from increased airflow and hydrogen from moisture that is  now directly available.

Over-seeding is also a beneficial service to your lawn during the cool fall months.  Over-seeding with an aeration allows for better seed germination and room for root growth.  Cooler soil temperatures and increased moisture levels are often enhanced  from increased occurrences of overnight dew.  This is the perfect setting for seed germination.

Fall also brings along an increase in soil microbe activity.  Soil microbes are a very important part of your lawn.  They decompose organic matter like grass clippings, leaves, small twigs and acorns and tree nuts.  These microbes also need feeding and a fall compost addition to your lawn greatly encourages the health and population of these beneficial sol microbes.  The healthy microbes continue to breakdown organic matter resulting in new nutrients becoming available for root absorption.
