What Does a Lawn Care Technician Do at Lawn Doctor?

As a Lawn Care Technician, you're on the frontlines of creating lush, healthy lawns for our customers. No day is exactly the same, but here's what you can expect:

  • Apply fertilizers, weed control, and pest management products using professional-grade equipment to enhance lawn health.
  • Perform specialized services like core aeration, power seeding, and soil treatments to improve turf quality.
  • Operate and maintain equipment like spreaders, sprayers, and our Turf Tamer machinery.
  • Drive a company vehicle to customer properties on your assigned route, ensuring timely service.
  • Interact with customers — Answer their questions and provide service recommendations to ensure satisfaction.
  • Inspect lawns for issues like weeds, pests, or diseases, and document conditions for proper follow-up.

A typical day: You'll start your morning by loading your vehicle with products and equipment at our base in Antioch. From there, you'll head out to service lawns in communities like Gurnee, Waukegan, Kenosha, and Racine. You'll work independently on your route, taking pride in improving every lawn you touch while occasionally chatting with customers about how to keep their grass thriving. By the end of the day, you'll feel accomplished knowing you've made a difference!

What We're Looking For

We're looking for team members who are as passionate about lawn care as we are. Here's what we need from you:

  • Valid driver's license — A must for driving company vehicles to client properties.
  • Reliable, self-motivated, and punctual — We need someone we can count on!

  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs regularly — Physical stamina is key for this role.
  • Pesticide applicator license is a plus, but not required — We'll help you get trained and certified.

Heat tracking in lawns

We have recently noticed a few instances of a somewhat rare phenomenon in the lawn care industry that we would like to point out in an effort to better communicate to both our customers and those interested in lawn care.  Along with the previously posted summer stress issues for the lawn in this blog, we wanted to bring up a more recent issue which is very rare but is currently a potential for lawns across the Antioch, Lake Villa, Lindenhurst, Gurnee, Lake Forest and Waukegan area.  This recent phenomenon is referred to by some in the industry as heat tracking. Heat tracking occurs when pressure is applied to the lawn from foot traffic, lawn mowers, fertilizer spreaders or anything else that can compress the leaf tissue down to the ground below.  When  this pressure is applied at the exact time frame (usually early afternoon at the peak heat of the day) that the turf is at its wilting point or entering dormancy stage it breaks the leaf tissue at the base o...
