Early Fall Fertilizer

Along with the first day of fall we are seeing some much needed improvements in the weather conditions.  The weather has finally cooled down and some rain has fallen on Northern Illinois. This is excellent timing for the early fall fertilizer that is starting to get spread.   Fall is the best time of year for fertilizing turf because the grass is responding well to the cooler temperatures and increased moisture levels.  Grass plants are producing more leaf and root tissues to repair itself from the summer stress and to produce food for itself through photosynthesis.  The turf is actively growing roots and rhizomes beneath the soil surface so that it can absorb more nutrients and expand during the ideal soil conditions.  Therefore fertilizer is required more now by the grass plant than any other time of the year.  Fertilizing now through the end of the growing season will assist in greening up leaf tissue, expanding roots and rhizomes and producing more top growth.

Fall of 2013 has brought many Lawn Doctor lawns to their full potential

Fall fertilizers will greatly enhance your property by supplying the nutrients needed by your lawn to develop new tissues.  The pictures here show healthy turf that has received its early fall fertilizer about two weeks ago as we also received some much-needed rainfalls.  The results are seen with the turf growing straight up as it is absorbing as much light exposure as possible.  These fall days have been ideal with the full days of low-angle indirect sun light and the heavy dews each morning.  The soil temperatures are still in the 70's and with night time temperatures falling into the 40's nature is supplying good leaf tissue precipitation in the form of heavy dews each morning.  Hopefully this continues well into the fall and into the Halloween weekend..
